Annette Funicello's dancer was spotted in Fullerton California by Walt Disney at the age of thirteen years old. Funicello, to the dismay of others Mickey Mouse Club stars, joined the cast after the initial season ended and did not have to apply for an audition. This was the first in a sequence of beach parties films that became immensely famous. The scripts for each of the films were given a personal read-through and approval by Walt Disney so as to safeguard Annette's image.
